In its desire to remain the common space for innovation in the packaging sector at the national level, the Spanish Technological Platform for Packaging (Packnet) continues to develop its plan of activities aimed at boosting new projects, and consequently continue to provide value added to its associated entities in line with current trends and market challenges.

In this sense, during the first half of 2018 Packnet has organized various events, conferences and working groups based on current issues in the field of packaging and packaging, as the latest legislative developments on the subject, sustainability, innovation in functional printing , carbon footprint, etc.

Additionally, Working Groups have been held in collaboration with other Technology Platforms with which Packnet has common synergies around various current issues such as’ Analysis of the Big Data Strategy in Spain ‘,’ Packaging and packaging for the horeca sector ‘,’ Prevention and mitigation of containers on coasts and marine media ‘or’ New materials destined for containers and packaging ‘.

As a novelty, it is worth highlighting the active participation of Packnet in the project ‘Group of innovation in packaging and packaging for agri-food companies’, which has been carried out together with Fiab in Castilla y León, and in which around 60 companies have participated of this autonomous community.

Once again, Packnet has participated in the Forum of the Cities of Madrid, within the Circular Economy Reflection Group coordinated from the Ecoembes chair, and also at the Hispack fair, held from 7 to 11 May in Barcelona.

On June 26, the Rector and General Assembly of the Platform took place in the Ministry of Economy and Business, where the renewal of its Governing Bodies and the appointment of the new president, Francisco Ortega Pinar, was confirmed. in the packaging sector, having held the Presidency of the Cluster of Packaging and Packaging of the Valencian Community from its foundation until 2017 and the General Directorate of Tecnicarton during the period 1994-2017, among other positions of responsibility in various entities of the sector .

Currently, apart from holding the Presidency of Packnet, Francisco Ortega is also advisor to the international packaging group DS Smith, vice president of the Technological Institute of Packaging, Transport and Logistics (Itene) and network counselor of Technological Institutes of the Valencian Community ( Redit).

In view of the activities planned by the Platform for the second semester, it is worth mentioning, among others, the continuity of the Working Groups on topics such as Sustainability, Health, Regulations and Biodegradable Materials.
